Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • ½ cup softened butter
  • cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 4 oz diced green chiles canned with juices

Method

Preheat Oven
  1. Set your oven to 500°F (260°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or a silicone mat for easy cleanup.
Mix the Topping
  1. In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, mayonnaise, shredded cheddar, and diced green chiles (with juices). Mix well until evenly blended.
Prepare the Bread
  1. Slice the French bread loaf in half, lengthwise. Spread the chile-cheese mixture evenly over both halves. Place cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake & Broil
  1. Bake for 5 minutes. Then switch to broil and cook until the topping is bubbly, golden, and slightly browned—watch closely to avoid burning.
Serve
  1. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy warm.
