Preheat Oven
- Set your oven to 500°F (260°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or a silicone mat for easy cleanup.
Mix the Topping
- In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, mayonnaise, shredded cheddar, and diced green chiles (with juices). Mix well until evenly blended.
Prepare the Bread
- Slice the French bread loaf in half, lengthwise. Spread the chile-cheese mixture evenly over both halves. Place cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake & Broil
- Bake for 5 minutes. Then switch to broil and cook until the topping is bubbly, golden, and slightly browned—watch closely to avoid burning.
Serve
- Remove from oven, let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy warm.
