A Mexican fruit roll up is a fruit roll up candy that is made with tropical fruits found in Mexico. It is a jelly-like candy with many flavors. Common Mexican flavors include pineapple, mango, tamarind, and guanabana. The fruit roll up is also colorful and is decorated with a Mexican delight- Chamoy, hot peppers, and Tajin!
What Is Chamoy And Why Is It Popular?
So, what is Chamoy? As we know, one of the main and most important ingredients in this delicious recipe is Chamoy, which is a thick sauce made out of fruits and spices. The color is typically a bright red that comes from crack seeds, originally from China.
This delicious sauce and seasoning is both tangy and sweet. It can be confusing to try for the first time, especially on a Mexican fruit roll up as there is also a hint of spice. Looking to try something new? Add some Chamoy sauce on fruit, inside of alcoholic drinks, and on top of candy!
Chamoy is not new, but it has not always been as popular as it is today. Actually, Chamoy rose in popularity in the 1990s in Mexico. It is said that the origin is Chinese as Chinese immigrants have been traveling to Mexico since the mid-1500s.
Are Fruit Roll Ups Healthy?
An important question to wonder is, are fruit roll ups healthy? The answer is difficult, but overall, not exactly. Fruit roll up candies found in stores are made with a lot of sugar! At the end of the day, these sweet treats are candies!
Although the spices and fruits do have some nutritional value, it is not enough when we compared to the sugar. Our recipe specifically uses natural ingredients like fresh fruits, however, you should not be eating Mexican fruit roll up candies everyday!

Step by Step Instructions On How To Make A Mexican Fruit Roll Up
Step 1: Process the Fruit
During the first step in this Mexican fruit roll-up recipe, you will need to process the fruit. I like doing this by first peeling both the mangos and the oranges. Afterwards, take the seeds or pits out of the fruit and add the remainder of the fruit into the blender. Blend until the mixture is smooth and has a similar texture to smoothies.
Step 2: Bake the Fruit Roll up
Afterwards, get a baking sheet with parchment paper and line it up. On the parchment paper, spray a non-stick spray or butter it so that the fruit roll-up does not get stuck to the pan or paper! I like to add some sugar to the blend before adding the puree onto the baking sheet.
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Once it reaches the temperature, pour the mixture onto the parchment paper and smooth using a spatula. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the mixture is tightly together. Keep checking every ten minutes so the mango and orange puree does not burn.
Step 3: Add the rest of the Ingredients
Now, onto the spices! When adding the rest of the ingredients in this Mexican fruit roll up recipe, have fun with it! I like to add as many seasonings, Tajin, and Chamoy as possible! Think of these ingredients as toppings.
Step 4: Cut, Peel, Cool, Enjoy, and Store!
The last and final step during this easy Mexican fruit roll up recipe is to use a cookie cutter or sharp knife to cut the Mexican fruit roll up once it is cooled down! Peel them off of the parchment paper, and enjoy! Looking to store these candies? Always refrigerate them as they can go bad quickly without preservatives!
